Well - what a lovely summer that was! We are a bit sad as it would have been nice to still be basking in the sun and dustbathing in the paddock. But the cycle of life goes on and on the plus side there are plenty of yummy bugs and fruit to nibble at. Yesterday a large number of Daddy Longlegs arrived and to the delight of our young relatives they spent a goodly time springing up and down in the pursuit of the aforementioned Longlegs. At least they slept well last night.

Johnny (Centre Stage) back to his former self
We are all well although Johnny Turkey had a bit of a do a few weeks back. Mr Grumpy the Fox had been sent out to provide the evening meal for Meredith and the cubs and chose Johnny! Poor Johnny was rescued from the fox's jaws by Mum - but he had already been dragged from the yard to the middle of the paddock. As a consequence of this he was almost bald, lacerated and scared witless - but alive. Johnny lives! We all rallied around and nursed him back to health and are very relieved to report that he is back in the prime of health.

Lois had her TB Test this week. She is not keen on this at all. And Mum is also not keen on it. But it went okay, so that was a great relief. We have read in Harvest's newspaper about the Badger Cull and together with Lois we have debated the issue. We like Badgers - although we actually don't see them very often on our little farm.
And the Showing season is once again upon us! The first one is today and Dad buffed himself up and set off bright and early with Stella and Stanley, the Silver Sebrights. Stella is one of this year's young pullets and very pretty. Sylvia has taught her how to stand properly and she had a wash and spruce up at Wattlebury Cottage during the week. We have some very smart Gold Sebrights too - but they aren't quite old enough to go to a Show yet.

We have noticed our bird friends are starting to think about leaving us as winter approaches. The Chiff Chaff that heralds spring called to say Goodbye last week. And the swallows, although still here at the moment - are preparing for their long journey. Take care, dear friends. Until we meet again next year.
